The Cybils judges

Ever wonder what it takes to judge a literary award? Us too. Even as volunteers rolled in, we weren’t quite sure what to tell them. Some things we do know:

  1. Judging starts after the Top Five are announced on January 1;
  2. Judging ends, uh, at a date to be announced later, probably early February;
  3. Judges are expected to read all five books in their category;
  4. "Eenie-meenie-minee-mo" is not acceptable judging criteria.

We’re still finessing some details, like how much to weigh pictures versus plot, or whether serious trumps silly (silly being a virtue in kiddie lit, after all).

Below are the judges. so far. There are fewer spots open compared to the nominating committees, but we’re still taking names if you’re interested. Judging slots are now full.

Also, please don’t be put off if you see a few extra Jennifers or Pattys. They’re all different people, as you’ll see when you click through to their excellent blogs.
