#CybilsAwards Book Lists: Princesses and Fairy Tales!

We did a non-fiction heavy list last week, so I thought we’d give fantasy some love. I’ve noticed a huge number of princess and fairy tale books as I’ve gone through the lists, and thought they’d be fun to highlight!

Besides, who doesn’t love a good fairy tale retelling or a princess story?

“Fun illustrations and wild type makes for a great-looking story”- TheBrookeList

Beasts and Beauty: Dangerous Tales
by Soman Chainani, illustrated by Julia Iredale

“All the stories have characters of diverse skin tones, and they are linked with repeated phrases and musings on the meaning of beauty, gender roles, true love, and what it means to be a witch.”- Katy K. at alibrarymama

The Raven Heir
by Stephanie Burgis
Bloomsbury Children’s Books

“There is a lot to like in this book. I loved reading about triplets, I don’t get to read many books with triplets (last one was Small Change for Stuart). The author gives Cordelia, Rosalind and Giles very different personalities and different magical powers.”- Valinora Troy

Dear Ugly Sisters: And Other Poems
by Laura Mucha, illustrated by Tanya Rex

“Original, dazzling, and unconventional, this brilliant first solo collection has a surprise on every page.”- Nicole at Feed Your Fiction Addiction

Six Crimson Cranes
by Elizabeth Lim
Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers

“Lim was able to keep me turning pages, pulling me in with her storytelling. It wasn’t heavy-handed, and I was genuinely surprised at the twists and turns it took (though I did suspect a few things, but I think we were supposed to).”- Melissa at Book Nut

Witches Steeped in Gold
by Ciannon Smart
