Ready for some #CYBILS2023 Book Reviews?

November starts tomorrow, and with it our season of book reviews. From 11/1/2023 through 6/30/2024 we’ll share review excerpts from books nominated or submitted for the 2023 CYBILS.

Many moons ago, we posted review excerpts here three times a week. Then we moved to nightly reviews on Twitter. For 2023 we are doing something new in hopes of getting the word out a little more. But first, the fine print:

Book reviews (and excerpts) represent our judges personal opinions about a book, in their own words. These reviews do not reflect the thoughts of the judging panel.

(Near) Daily CATEGORY reviews on the blog.

From Monday through Saturday, we’ll have review excerpts of #CYBILS2023 books on the blog. Each Category is part of  a theme.

  •  Middle-Grade Monday [2 books: MG Fiction, EMG Graphic Novels]
  • Nonfiction Tuesday [3 books: Elementary, Middle-Grade, and High School]
  • Wee Ones Wednesday [2 books: Board Book, Fiction Picture Book]
  • See Me Read Thursday [2 books: Easy Reader, Early Chapter Book] OR themed book list
  • YA Fiction Friday [2 books: YA Fiction, YA Graphic Novel]  OR Poetry Friday [2 books: collections, verse novels]
  • SpecFic Saturday [2 books: EMG Speculative Fiction, YA Speculative Fiction]

Thursdays and Fridays we will alternate posts because poetry and easy readers/early chapter books traditionally have fewer titles nominated, which means fewer reviews overall.

Weekly review round-ups on Substack

Once each week we’ll gather all the blog posts into a single newsletter on Substack. It’ll most likely post on Mondays (look for the first one circa 11/6). If you want to have something enjoyable to kick of your week, then subscribe here to get the newsletter.

After we put them on Substack, we’ll link to them on BlueSky.
